Which Enkidu Lamp Is Right for You?

Enkidu lamps come in four versions — Lyra, Luna, Apollo, and Vega — each designed for a different scale of use, from personal sessions to large group experiences. Luna, Apollo, and Vega add a 660nm red channel to the warm white, enabling dual-channel AVE with deeper eyelid penetration and — for Apollo and Vega — simultaneous red light therapy. Lyra is the entry-level model, focused on white-light AVE. The choice comes down to how many people you want to serve and the capabilities you need.

What Does High Lux Mean for AVE?

Lux measures how much light lands on a surface — in this case, your closed eyelids. During an AVE session your eyes are closed, so the lamp does not need to create direct eye contact. What matters is that enough light passes through your eyelids to trigger the visual cortex and guide your brainwaves. Even a small fraction of the lamp’s output reaches the retina through the eyelid — and that is enough. The brain is remarkably sensitive to rhythmic light, and entrainment occurs reliably at much lower levels than open-eye viewing would require.

Enkidu uses 2700K warm white LEDs specifically for eye safety — this spectrum carries minimal blue-light energy, eliminating blue-hazard concerns even at the high intensities produced at close range. The 660nm red channel goes further: red light penetrates the eyelid two to three times more efficiently than white light, making it the most effective wavelength for through-eyelid AVE entrainment.

The recommended heights are calibrated so the lamp delivers approximately 500 lux at the session surface. 500 lux is the standard benchmark for comfortable room illumination, and it also provides a consistent, immersive level for AVE sessions across the entire covered area.

The Flower Position

For group sessions, all models use the same setup. Place the lamp at the centre of the space on a tripod or ceiling mount. Participants lie on their backs with heads pointing inward toward the lamp, bodies radiating outward like the spokes of a wheel. This keeps every participant in the brightest part of the beam with equal light exposure. Only the face and upper chest need to be within the lit circle — bodies naturally extend outward beyond it.

Lyra — Personal & Small Group

Recommended height: 1.5m

At 1.5 metres, Lyra illuminates a 1.7m diameter circle at approximately 500 lux — the ideal footprint for personal or small group sessions of up to four people. Lyra is the most compact and lightest model in the lineup, completely fanless and travel-friendly — light enough to pack and set up anywhere. It delivers white-light AVE entrainment using the warm 2700K channel. For sessions that include the 660nm red channel for a stronger eyelid response and red light therapy, step up to Luna.

Luna — Personal & Small Group Up to 8 People

Recommended height: 2.1m

At 2.1 metres, Luna illuminates a 2.4m diameter circle at approximately 500 lux — a significantly larger footprint than Lyra despite the same white LED configuration, because the added 660nm red channel changes the calculation entirely. Red light penetrates the eyelid two to three times more efficiently than white, meaning Luna’s combined AVE output through closed eyelids is roughly double Lyra’s at the same distance. This allows a higher mounting point, wider coverage, and room for up to eight people in the flower position.

Luna’s red channel is optimised for AVE entrainment rather than photobiomodulation — the 10W red output delivers a superior eyelid response but falls below the threshold for effective red light therapy. For dual-channel AVE with full red light therapy, step up to Apollo.

Apollo — Studio & Medium Group Up to 15 People

Recommended height: 2.8m

At 2.8 metres, Apollo covers a 3.2m diameter circle at approximately 500 lux — comfortably fitting fifteen people in the flower position. The natural choice for practitioners running regular group sessions, yoga studios, or dedicated therapy rooms. Apollo’s 20W red array delivers sufficient irradiance for simultaneous red light therapy alongside AVE sessions.

Vega — Large Group & Professional Use Up to 20 People

Recommended height: 3.3m

At 3.3 metres, Vega illuminates a 3.8m diameter circle at approximately 500 lux, large enough for twenty people in the flower position. Beyond AVE and red light therapy, Vega includes a dedicated Lighting Mode — running both white and red channels in continuous, flicker-free output for use as a standard room lamp. The smart fan keeps Vega running cool during longer multi-person sessions. A tall tripod is sufficient at this height — though a fixed ceiling mount in a dedicated room gives the cleanest setup and removes any trip hazard in a darkened space.
